GeoHistory Americas Map Folio

Introduction

The GeoHistory Americas Map Folio provides a complete historical review of the Americas from the earliest days of exploration to the present. There are 300 separate map layers in this electronic collection, which includes North America, Central America and South America history. The directory of all GeoHistory maps and layers is available upon request.

The maps available here are for demonstration purposes and may not be copied or replicated in any form. The maps presented at this demonstration site represent a small sampling of our total electronic portfolio. Each map deals with a theme of American history, and is comprised of a number of related layers dealing with the sequence of important historical events. The GeoHistory maps provide an important visual tool for teaching the history of the Americas in an interactive, intuitive and interesting way. These maps have proven to be a powerful resource for students, teachers, researchers, who are interested in learning more about important events that shaped the Americas.

Representative maps are provided on this demonstration site in two different Flash formats: The first is a user guided program dealing with two sample topics: (1) US territorial expansion and competing territorial claims and (2) Central American liberation. The second is a set of two pre-programmed Flash movies depicting the various events of (1) The Revolutionary War and (2) the Civil War. In addition, maps of the first set are presented in JPEG format. Convenient user controls, such as timelines and zoom options, allows the user to view carefully each map and event.

These maps can be networked electronically in a Local Area Network (LAN) as well as a Wide Area Network (WAN). If you have interest in learning more about purchasing or licensing the Americas map folio, please contact us via email at maps@geoportals.com or via phone at 800-728-0032.
